To startup a Chromebook you normally just need to lift the lid and it will power on automatically. If you are having any trouble with a Chromebook powering on, please follow these troubleshooting steps.
- Lift the lid and give the device a solid 15 seconds to power on.
- If the device does not power on after 15 seconds press the power button.
- If the devices still does not power on:
- Press and Hold the Refresh Key and Power on Key simultaneously for at least 5 seconds then close the lid - see next step. (The refresh key is the Circular arrow key usually above the “4” key on the keyboard)
- Close the lid and plug the device in. Notice the color of the charge light located next to the plug. Is it Red, Orange or Green?
- Green = Fully Charged battery – the device should be powering on – Lift the lid again and wait 15 seconds
- Orange = Partially Charged battery – the device should be powering on – Lift the lid again and wait 15 seconds
- Red light = Fully depleted battery – leave the lid closed and wait for the light to turn orange – this could take up to 30 minutes. Once the light is no longer red – lift the lid – the device should now be powering on.
If none of these steps work then the Chromebook probably has a hardware issue and will need to be exchanged for a different one. If that is the case, please notify your teacher who will make arrangements for an exchange.
